Galactic Republic Military Force

**Senator Thrace Dooghan I stood up in his box, looking around the chamber, he removed his glasses, placing his right hand at the small of his back**

"Fellow Senators, in a time of peace, while I am loathe to address military matters, I feel that nipping the issue of a Galactic Senate military force in the bud may be a wise decision so as to not be caught unawares should the need arise to call to arms."

**Senator Dooghan paused to replace his glasses to his snout and rest both hands on the railing as he leaned forward to address the senate, his deep voice and powerful presence projected across the senate hall**

"I propose that we explore several options either for a military force fed into by the member planets to act as the Senate Military, or perhaps a contingency plan to send our collective forces into action as the need arises."

**Again, the senator looked around slowly to get the faces of each and every senator within his field of view...**

"Rhaldigan proposes that rather than assemble an entire military force for the sole purpose of serving the collective needs to keep peace through out the Republic, that we call into action a contingency, that during a time of war, each planet sends an appropriate amount of military aid."

"It is my wish that we can discuss and explore options that will improve upon the state readiness of the Senate response to crisis. Thank you."

**At the end of the proposal, the ancient Senator moved to sit down, steepling thick fingers before him as he awaited the response of his fellow Senators...**

**Senator Rhakam rises and clears his throat, ready to adress the assembled senate**

Senator Dooghan, my fellow senators. Lyssa feels that while Rhaldigan's proposition has it's merits, a permanent security force should still be maintained even in times of peace.

**Senator Rakham looks around the hall, looking at the assembled parties from the different member states before continuing.**

We propose this because we feel that the Republic should be able to act quickly and effectively in cases of civil conflict or when economic or, in the worst case scenario, military embargos need to be put in place. This peacekeeping force need not be that large, but large enough to enable quick military action against a single member state without having to wait for additional forces which would delay their effectiveness. Such a peacekeeping force would however, be limited in size so that while military action against a single member planet would be possible, action against multiple planets would not be possible without drawing on additional forces from the member states.

We believe that such a limited, peacekeeping military, along with the contingency plan put forward by Rhaldigan, will provide a good defense for the Republic against both external and internal threats.
