Gentle Palm
I would like to request a unique force ability for Jedi Master Sage to use the force to
strengthen his hands only to the point of being impervious.
Why I want this:
Sage is an ancient jedi master who has come to seek a means of using the force purely for defence.
"A jedi uses the force for knowledge and defence, never for attack." This new force
ability would embody this ideal in its purest form.
With the ability to make his fists invulnerable, Sage would rarely if ever, need to light his saber and when on the rare occasion that he does, it would be an alert to all around him that the solid waste has accurately impacted on the exhaust fan.
For a while now I've considered different ideas of how to make Sage not need his
lightsaber in most situations. There was the Yoda approach where he would just overwhelm any non force user with telekinesis like the Crimson Guard, or Corran Horn with his masterful illusions.
I even thought of some kind of Hydro-kinesis that would work a la Percy Jackson but decided that would be too powerful no matter how it worked.
Also those methods don't work as well in an rp setting where any ability no matter how powerful, can't be employed as an auto. If anything, this ability would only give the impression of power without actually making him more powerful.
After all, a jedi who fights using his fists instead of a lightsaber becomes less of a threat as he loses reach and cutting power. There is no real advantage gained, only an IC impressiveness thats unique and fitting for Sage who was conceptually based on Caine from Kung-Fu.
Examples of this occuring in Star Wars:
Vodo-Siosk Baas was able to charge his plain wooden staff to be able withstand lightsabers.
Mace Windu was able to empower his fists to withstand droid armor so he could punch them down when he lost his saber.
We already allow masters to withstand blaster bolts with their hands.
The best example is the staff of Vodo-Siosk Baas. From the SW wiki:
"The walking staff that was utilized by Krevaaki Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Baas' was simply a wooden stick approximately one and a half meters long. One end of the staff was wrapped with fabric strips and served as the head. Baas wielded the weapon in lieu of a lightsaber despite his skills in their construction, augmented the staff through the Force to allow it to withstand lightsabers, as well as transfer tremendous amounts of kinetic energy into targets, allowing him to shatter rocks with the weapon, or off-balance and disarm opponents with ease."
I am thinking over time, Sage could have learned to apply the same principle to his fists.
I've found this listed as a force power in the wiki:
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Force_Weapon
"Force Weapon was a Force ability that allowed the user to imbue an unpowered weapon with the Force for a period of time. By channeling energy into the weapon, it allowed the wielder to strike and do more damage than the weapon's simple appearance would suggest. As a useful side effect, a Force-imbued weapon could be used to block lightsabers without damaging the weapon."
Sage would not do extra damage with his fists, except for perhaps shattering a block of solid ice or doing a karate chop on a plank of wood. You know, Bruce Lee stuff.
Limitations and Weaknesses:
1. The philosophy of Gentle Palm is one of pure defence--thus Sage could not be wielding another weapon. IE: he can't be using his saber or any other weapon when using this ability.
2. It takes alot of effort to employ this ability. So when active, he could not use most powers like Force Push, Force Persuasion, Illusions (alter mind), Induce Sleep etc.
In fact the only other powers he'd be able to realistically be able to use would be mild powers like Danger Sense or Force Leap. (While unable to use force push, he should still be able to counter a force push. He is a master.)
3. The technique makes his hands glow brightly, with a pure golden aura that looks like a cleansing flame (but one that does not burn, its just slightly warm) and makes a sound like cascading energy. So it removes any form of stealth.
4. In the spirit of anti-stealth aspects, Sage is unable to use Force Cloak and could not become a Jedi Artisan due to him having needed to focus so much on developing the technique of the Gentle Palm.
5. The affected area covers Sage's hands only. From his fingers to the edge of his wrists and no further. He cannot imbue other parts of his body or other weapons like Vodo-Siosk Baas. So he can't take a stick and turn it into a saber resistant weapon, or a long coat. Nor turn his head into a saber blocking thing.
Sage is more about kung-fu fighting skills, not stick fighting or head butting.
6. The biggest weakness of all: Sage could be the victim of a taunt that could not be deflected. If he ever blocks several blaster bolts in a row, someone could call him a Wonder Woman wannabe. Stop and consider how this is an epic weakness and more than balances the ability I'm asking for.
7. Sage could not switch between Gentle Palm and lightsaber use on the fly. While it could be activated at will, Sage would have to spend perhaps, half a combat turn switching from Gentle Palm to Lightsaber--this could be because of the mindset change.
8. I know combat. You may be worrying that Sage might use this to grab someone's saber blade and pull it from their hand but I know better.
In combat it would be like this:
Darth_Seer strikes downward at Sage
Sage raises his left hand, empowered by his unique force ability called the Gentle Palm
and catches the blade, his hand unharmed and proceeds to attempt to grasp the blade, intending to pull it away from his attacker
Darth_Seer spins his saber from the hilt at a narrow angle, bringing it out of Sage's grasp and towards Sage's forearm where it is unprotected
Sage pulls back his left arm before it can be cut
More limitations I am not after but will accept if needed to have this approved:
1. Vodo's staff had almost unlimited lightsaber resistance once he imbued it with the force, but it was overwhelmed when Exar Kun attacked him with dual lightsabers. If needed, the Gentle Palm ability could only allow up to 15 lightsaber strikes, then need to cooldown.
2. I figured this ability would also deflect blaster bolts, if needed it could be set so he could only absorb blaster bolts, but deflection is so much cooler.
Thank you in advance for considering this and apologies for this being so long winded.
